Description

This is a mid-to-late 19th-century house and shop. It is located on the west side of Fore Street, St Columb Major. The front is of painted brick, with sides of stone rubble, and the roof is slate, featuring a crested ridge tile and gable ends. The building has a two-room plan, with a shop situated in the front room on the ground floor. The asymmetrical front has three storeys. The ground floor features a fine late 19th-century shop front of cast iron, incorporating three round arches with pilasters, decorative cast iron spandrels, and a cornice resting on consoles. To the right of the shop front is a recessed round-arched doorway, with a fielded panel at the base and an overlight. The first floor contains a canted bay that rises to the second floor. Each floor of the bay has a four-pane sash window to the front, with plate-glass sashes on the right and left. A hipped roof covers the bay. Pilasters rise through the first and second floors to pinnacles with finials featuring swept necking and small balls. A small circular window is located at the apex of the gable. The interior has not been inspected.
