Description
This is a terrace of five houses dating from the early to mid-19th century, originally known as Vivian Terrace, situated on Falmouth Road in Truro. The houses have granite ashlar plinths, and Nos. 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21 are constructed with dressed coursed freestone and stucco detailing, with the exception of No.13, which is entirely stuccoed. They have scantle slate roofs with a hipped end to No.21, while the remainder have asbestos slate. The stacks are of brick, rendered on the left (No.13), between Nos. 15 and 17, and stuccoed between Nos. 19 and 21. The design follows a double-depth plan, with one room at the front in each house.
The houses are two storeys high, with basements to Nos. 17, 19, and 21. They have a nine-window front. Original 12-pane hornless sashes remain on the first floor of Nos. 15 and 17. The other windows are later horned sashes, all set within stucco architraves, with sill brackets and consoles supporting moulded hoods. No. 13 has two-storey canted bay windows on the left-hand side and a moulded hood on consoles over a round-headed doorway, which has a carved keyblock and a spoked fanlight over a door consisting of two tall round-arched panels. No. 17 features a canted bay with a moulded cornice and cast-iron cresting on the ground floor to the left. No. 13 has a carved mid-floor band. Doorways to Nos. 15, 17, and 19 are set within stucco architraves with round pediments on consoles, and feature panelled doors with plain overlights. The entrance to No. 21 is through a stucco porch on the right-hand return. The interiors have not been inspected, but are likely to be of interest. Original wrought-iron railings, with turned finials over the stanchions, are present in front of Nos. 17 and 21.
