Description

Darras Farmhouse is likely of 17th-century origin, with extensions added in the later 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of granite rubble with rag slate roofs, featuring a gable end on the left and a hipped end on the right. Stone rubble axial stacks are present.

The house is built on a hillside, with the ground sloping upwards to the left. The original plan may have been a two-room layout with a cross or through passage, the two rooms heated by end stacks and a stair turret situated behind the right-hand room. A narrower single-room range was added in the later 17th century, incorporating an end stack on the lower right-hand side. Around the 18th century, a shippon was added to the higher left-hand end of the house. A single-room service range was added in the late 19th century to the lower right-hand end.

The asymmetrical front has three windows. A lean-to stone rubble porch is flanked by likely 20th-century two-light casement windows on the ground floor, with matching windows above. To the right, within the later 17th-century extension, are further likely 20th-century two-light casement windows on both ground and first floors, with a stone rubble buttress separating the two ranges. A lean-to porch is found to the far right. The shippon, attached to the higher left-hand side, is single-storied and features a 19th-century stable-type door and a one-light window.

The rear elevation remains unaltered, displaying a stair projection behind the original range's right-hand room. The interior is not accessible. The property’s group value is reflected in its historical development and architectural features.
