Description
The Famous Barrel Public House is a public house that likely dates from the late 18th century. It features granite and other rubble walls, topped with a hipped asbestos slate roof and tall brick end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The windows include 20th-century three-light casements on the left and right, with narrower openings containing two-light casements to the right of the middle. The first-floor windows are positioned tight under the eaves, and the ground-floor openings are spanned by segmental brick arches. There is a doorway to the left of the middle, which has a 20th-century door. Inside, partitions have been removed and the walls stripped of plaster to reveal a granite fireplace on the left, along with original ceiling joists that still have nails from former plaster ceilings.
