Description

No. 38, St Thomas Street is an early 19th-century town house in Penryn. The front is constructed of granite ashlar with keyed flat arches above the ground floor windows, and has an asbestos slate roof with a brick stack on the left side. The building follows a double-depth plan and is two storeys high, with a symmetrical three-window front featuring a blind central window. It has 20th-century sixteen-pane horned sash windows. The central doorway dates from the early 19th century and has a moulded architrave with corner blocks containing roundels, panelled reveals and a pediment, all within a stucco surround featuring consoles and a carved frieze to a keyed entablature. A sculpture of Bishop Bronescombe was installed in a recessed window on the first floor around 1980. The interior has not been inspected.
