Description
32, 34, and 34A St Thomas Street is a town house that was later converted into a pair of houses. It likely dates from the late 18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century to create the pair. The building features a brick-faced front with rusticated granite quoins and has a steep hipped scantle slate roof with brick end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys over a basement on the left, with a two-window range. The 20th-century windows are sixteen-pane horned sashes. The ground floor includes a wide central doorway flanked by pilasters and consoles, featuring a tripartite arrangement with a six-panelled door, overlight, and panelled sidelights. There is rubble masonry with a window on each side, and a round-headed basement doorway to the far left. The interior retains much original or early 19th-century carpentry and joinery detail, along with some early 19th-century moulded and carved plasterwork. This building is a rare example for West Cornwall of the use of brick, which was imported into the harbour.
