Description
The Mousehole Cenotaph is a memorial located at the center of the western arc of the harbour wall, which is also listed as Grade II*. It is positioned on a buttress above a slipway and is made of grey granite sourced from the nearby hamlet of Sheffield. The cenotaph features a tapering obelisk that is rectangular in shape, topped with a carved laurel wreath. Above the obelisk sits a simple representation of a cenotaph.
The memorial has a substantial base adorned with vertical fluting and a carved laurel wreath on each side. The front face of the obelisk bears the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE THIRTY-SIX WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE AND OF ALL THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 ALSO IN REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AND THOSE WHO SERVED IN 1939-1945."
In front of the cenotaph, there are two low granite pillars connected by a chain.
