Description
Perkers is a house located on Churchtown Road in Illogan, likely built in the mid to late 18th century. The building features uncoursed killas rubble with large, irregular granite quoins and a dressed granite porch. It has a slate roof and brick chimneys. Originally designed with a single-depth plan, it has been enlarged at the rear to create a double-depth layout.
The house is two storeys high and has two bays that are almost symmetrical. The doorway, which is offset to the right of centre, is sheltered by a porch made of two monolithic granite slabs that are shaped at the outer ends like square pillars with plinths. The roof of the porch is another slab with a finely-moulded edge resembling a cornice, protecting a door with round-headed panels. On the ground floor, there are two 16-pane sash windows, while the upper floor features two square 12-pane sashes, with 4 panes in the upper leaf and 8 in the lower. All windows have exposed boxes and large irregular quoined jambs. The roof has two spans with chimneys at the left gables. The interior has been altered over time.
Perkers is part of an attractively stepped row of three houses, with Karenza set back to the left and North View projecting to the right, but it is noted for its own architectural significance.
