Description

This is a cottage and adjoining cartshed that dates back to the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The cottage is constructed of whitewashed cob on roughly squared stone, while the cartshed is made of stone rubble. It has a corrugated iron roof and a brick chimney located at the right gable end.

The cottage is a two-storey structure with a single depth layout, featuring two rooms on the ground floor and a loft area above. The staircase to the loft, which was originally external, was incorporated into the accommodation in the late 20th century. The front of the cottage has a projection that contains the stair and a small porch, both covered by lean-to roofs. The entrance is located through the right side of this projection.

At the front of the cartshed, two timber posts support the roof. The cottage has two ground floor windows from the 20th century, which are situated under timber lintels, along with a 20th-century casement window in the front projection. There is also a first-floor opening leading to the loft. The rear of the cottage features an entrance to the loft on the first floor.

Inside, the ground floor room on the right has a large rebuilt fireplace, complete with a fireplace beam that has ogee stops, a chamfered stopped large cross beam, and axial beams. This building may have originally formed part of a courtyard plan associated with Gooseham Barton. It is included for its group value with Gooseham Barton.
