Description

Furze Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring alterations from the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is colourwashed and roughcast, topped with a 20th-century slate roof that has gabled ends. The left gable end has a brick chimney, while the right gable end has a projecting stack with a brick shaft. The farmhouse has a single depth plan that is three rooms wide, with rear lean-to additions. The original layout may have consisted of two or three rooms, with the room at the lower end previously used as a shippon.

The structure is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows, an off-centre front door, and a 20th-century glazed conservatory with a flat roof. The windows throughout are 20th-century casements with two lights and six panes per light, and the openings have been enlarged. Inside, the ground floor room on the left features two stop-chamfered cross-beams with wide run-out stops, a large fireplace with a cloam oven, and a chamfered fireplace beam with wide run-out stops, although this is partly concealed by a 20th-century fireplace. The ground floor has six-panel doors, and there is one two-panel 18th-century door leading to the first-floor room on the right. The principals are visible in the upstairs rooms, but the roof space has not been inspected.
