Description

Old Ploughman Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone, with the ground floor painted and the front of the first floor covered in slate. The roof is slate, with gable ends. A large stone axial stack rises from the ridge towards the right-hand side of the centre of the house. The plan is of a single depth, three-room design, with a cross passage, and the stack is located at the inner end of the hall. An outshut has been added to the rear. The front of the house is regular in appearance, featuring three windows. On the ground floor is a 20th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars, and a 20th-century plank door within a rubble stone lean-to porch covered with slate. There are also two 16-pane sash windows without horns and containing crown glass. Above, there are three 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, likely in original openings. The interior has been modernised. The property was not inspected.
