Description

This is a town house, originally built in the 17th century and remodelled in the 18th century. It is now subdivided. It is located in Penryn, Cornwall. The front of the building is granite ashlar with keyed flat arches at ground floor level. It has a steep slate roof with a decorative cornice. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a wing set at a right angle behind the left-hand side. It is two storeys high with a four-window front. The windows are 20th-century sashes with glazing bars, replacing earlier sashes from the late 18th or early 19th century. The central doorway has a pediment, a moulded architrave, fielded panelled reveals, a six-panel door, and a small window to the right, which was inserted into a former doorway. A round-headed doorway is located at the far right, with a 20th-century four-panel door and barred fanlight, replacing a similar 18th-century door. An inspection around 1980 revealed some 17th and 18th century features, including a fireplace with a chamfered oak lintel (now hidden) in the rear of the left-hand room, fielded dado panelling in the same room, and a bolection-moulded chimneypiece and round-arched collars in the rear wing, all of which have since been removed. The chimneypiece has been reused at Croft West in Kenwyn parish.
