Description

This barn, located approximately 25 metres south-south-west of Burnewhall Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century, with possible earlier origins. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and features a half-hipped roof originally covered with grouted scantle slate, although the rear has been replaced with corrugated asbestos. The barn has a long rectangular plan, likely with a threshing floor to the right, which has a rear doorway accessed by a flight of stone steps that were repaired in the 20th century.

The structure is two storeys high, with granite lintels above the ground-floor doorways, including a blocked doorway with a window to the right, as well as above the windows and the first-floor loading doorway. The left gable end has a granite lintel over a cart opening, and there are blocked doorways and ventilation holes at the rear. The interior features a late 19th or early 20th-century A-frame roof with nailed collars. This barn is a significant example of the two-level type that became a common feature in many Cornish farmsteads from the late 18th century, contributing to a notable group of agricultural buildings.
