Description

CALSTOCK SX 4268-4368 9/29 Range of garden walls attached to north of Retainers' Court GV II Range of garden walls. Possibly C16 in the west range, extended in the C18 and repaired C20. Slatestone rubble with granite dressings. Plan: The first range extends about 60 metres to north ; there is a range about 60 metres long to west with a gardener's shed attached on the north side and a range extending about 100 metres to west, probably extended circa C18, and returned along the east side of the garden surrounding the house. The first range is in slatestone rubble, about 2 metres high, with a gateway to south with C19 granite surround with segmental arch. Towards the middle of this range is another gateway in granite with segmental arch ; at the north end, there is slate coping over a granite doorway with segmental arch and C20 Chinese Chippendale style door. The range extending to west has a lean-to gardener's shed attached to the north side. Extending to east, the wall has slatestone battlements, continued in part of the south return.
