Description

A former house and adjoining farm buildings, dating from the 17th century with 19th-century remodelling and extensions. The buildings are constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings, and have scantle slate and dry Delabole slate roofs with gable ends. The complex has an irregular plan, comprising a main range with a former house, a barn with a central threshing floor accessed by stone steps, and further outbuildings including a shippon, cartshed, stables, and an outshut. The rear wall of the house continues behind the barn.

The exterior has mostly unaltered elevations with a mix of 19th-century openings alongside some original 17th and 18th-century openings. The southeast front features a central barn flanked by a probably 17th-century building (heightened and remodelled in the 19th century) and a 17th-century former house. The house has four altered doorways to the ground floor, with an old (probably 18th-century) window opening with 19th-century shutters above the middle doorway to the left, and a similar blocked opening above the leftmost doorway. Kneeler stones with scrolled ends feature at the right-hand end of the house. The rear of the house has a 17th-century chamfered doorway and a mid-floor window, possibly a former stair window. The barn has an unaltered symmetrical two-window front with a central doorway and a loading doorway above. One of the buildings has chamfered jambstones to its front doorway and a chamfered lintel. The rear wall is buttressed and has a doorway with a reused chamfered lintel. The interior was not inspected.
