Description
This is a beam engine house for a tin mine, built around the mid-19th century. It was repaired as a ruin in 1984 for the National Trust. The structure is made of granite rubble with granite dressings, except for the granite ashlar used on the bob wall. The building has a rectangular single-cell plan, with masonry walls in front of the bob wall on the northeast side, which supported former winding machinery.
The engine house is three storeys tall. The bob wall features a central doorway above a basement doorway, while the opposite gable wall has a central window opening on each floor. The left-hand wing wall includes a doorway, and the right-hand wing wall has a window.
