Description
Higher Bolitho Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings, and the front is slurried. The building features a steep corrugated iron roof, which was formerly thatched, and has a large rendered stone chimney over the original left-hand gable end. The farmhouse has a two-room plan with a central cross passage, along with a later lean-to at the rear and a one-room extension added to the left side in the early to mid-20th century. It stands two storeys high with a very low two-window front, where the first-floor windows are positioned just above the ground floor lintel level. The central doorway has a four-panel door and is set within a small open-fronted gable-ended porch with a slate roof made of brick. The windows are four-pane horned sashes in their original openings. The interior has not been inspected. This farmhouse is noted for being one of the least altered small farmhouses in the area and was once part of a group of small houses, with the other houses now repurposed as farm buildings.
