Description

The Former Rectory is an early 19th-century building that was extended in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with dressed granite quoins, and parts of it are rendered. The roof is hipped and covered with sluried slate, with some areas reclad in asbestos tiles. The building features side stacks with brick shafts, some of which are rendered and topped with square yellow clay pots.

The rectory has an L-shaped plan, with the front range comprising three principal rooms facing the garden and a stair hall located behind, accessible from the right side. The rear right-hand service wing was entered and raised to three storeys around the early to mid 19th century.

The exterior includes a two-storey front range with a symmetrical four-bay garden front. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows from the 19th century, although the lower sashes are missing their glazing bars. The first floor features 9-pane sashes. On the right side, there are various 19th-century sashes and a flush-panelled glazed door to the left, which is sheltered by a porch supported by tapered wooden columns. The right side of the building projects forward and has a later wooden balcony. The rear elevation of the front range showcases a large 19th-century round-headed stair window. The rear wing, which also rises to three storeys, contains mostly 16-pane and 12-pane sashes, along with a casement and a flush-panel door that has a 20th-century wooden porch.

Inside, the rectory is largely intact and retains much of its original joinery, including panelled doors. The principal front rooms feature elegant marble chimney pieces and moulded ceiling cornices. The hall has a moulded ceiling cornice and an open-well, open-storey staircase with stick balusters, a column newel, and a moulded mahogany handrail. The kitchen includes a 19th-century built-in dresser with a rack and an iron range.
