Description

The lychgate to the Church of St Euny, built in 1810, is constructed from granite ashlar with some red brick and features a slate roof. It has a rectangular plan and includes a wide semi-elliptical entrance archway, which is adorned with imposts, joggled voussoirs, a decorative band, and an embattled parapet topped with obelisk finials at each end. The side walls have short ramps leading to the side gates. The rear end of the lychgate features a similar archway beneath a brick gable. Inside, there is a massive granite coffin-rest, approximately 4½ metres long, protruding at the west end, likely intended for multiple burials following mine accidents.
