Description
Dobwalls War Memorial is a First World War memorial cross that includes later additions for the Second World War. It is constructed of granite and sits on a concrete base within a larger tarmac area, which is surrounded by later railings outside the memorial hall. The memorial features a roughhewn Latin cross with an incised cross at the center of the head and running down the shaft. The shaft rises from a two-stepped granite plinth. At the base of the shaft, there is a smoothed panel that displays the first of the names.
The inscription on the top section of the plinth reads: "IN HONOURED AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914 – 1918 'GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS'." The second section of the plinth lists the names of those who fell in the Second World War, preceded by the years 1939 – 1945.
The metal railings that were installed around the memorial in 2006 are not included in the listing.
