Description

The Toll House is a toll house built in 1837, featuring rubble walls with granite dressings and a dry Delabole slate roof, which has outshuts on the side walls of the rear wing. It has a tall axial brick chimney and a symmetrical plan, designed in the Tudor-Gothic style. The building is two storeys high and has a one-window coped south gable end with chamfered corners. There is a central two-storey coped projection with a datestone on the gable. The windows include two-light transomed mullioned windows with a square hoodmould over the first-floor window, small single lights on the returns, and a former doorway on the ground floor with a four-centred arch, all featuring casements with glazing bars. The right-hand return has a two-light transomed window with a hoodmould and a recessed panel above it. The outshut on the right has a central slate-hung gabled dormer, and there is a kneeler at the left-hand corner. A 1980s extension is located on the right side, while the original doorway on the left has a planked door. The return wall to the left of the doorway has a single-light window. The interior has not been inspected.
