Description
Moorswater Lodge is a large villa dating from 1829-30, possibly designed by George Wightwick for J Lyne. It is constructed of stucco over masonry, with moulded strings defining the ground and first floors, and has dry slate roofs with a hipped central section behind a parapet. The building features octagonal stucco chimneys. The original plan was irregular and extended in the later 19th century. It is built in a Tudor-Gothic style.
The south front has a 1:3:1 bay arrangement. Side bays are single-storey lean-tos, separated by set-off buttresses. The windows are 2- and 3-light designs with Y-traceried heads, set within 4-centred arched openings with labels. The centrally gabled entrance bay projects forward and has a heavily moulded doorway with traceried spandrels, double doors with moulded vertical panels, and side doorways. A central gabled porch break is visible on the left-hand return. The rear of the lodge retains some original windows.
The interior was not inspected at the time of survey, but a previous listing description noted the presence of contemporary features.
