Description
This barn or cowhouse, located approximately 10 metres north-west of Higher Hampt Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone minor later alterations. It is constructed from regularly coursed slate-stone, featuring granite quoins and dressings, and has a slate roof. The building has two levels. On the ground floor, there are four round-headed doorways with voussoirs. To the right, there is a doorway and a window, both with granite lintels. On the first floor, there is a wide plank door under a slate lean-to hood to the left of centre, and another first-floor plank door with a granite lintel directly above the right door. The structure is terraced into the hill, with an elliptical arch directly opposite the wide plank door on the back wall. An inspection of the roof structure was not possible during the last survey in November 1987.
