Description

These are a pair of cottages located in Stoke Clemsland. They were likely built in the early 19th century, and may incorporate elements of an earlier structure, with later additions and alterations. The cottages are constructed of roughly coursed slate-stone, with an artificial slate roof. They are two stories high. The upper floor has five 19th-century casement windows directly below the eaves: three to the left and two to the right of a ridge stack topped with painted brick. The ground floor has a 19th-century fixed-light window and a 19th-century casement window to the left, and a 19th-century casement window to the right of a 20th-century glazed porch over a 20th-century glazed door, which serves Clematis Cottage (the left-hand cottage). Penleat Cottage (the right-hand cottage) has a 20th-century round-headed window to the left, and a 19th-century casement window to the right of a plank door featuring strap hinges. Both the doorway and the right-hand window are topped with granite lintels. A straight joint is visible immediately to the right of the ridge stack.
