Description

Numbers 1-4 Harriet Place form a terrace of four early 19th-century houses. The houses are built with stucco over rubble construction, and feature hipped roofs covered in dry slate to number 4 (the left-hand house), with asbestos slate elsewhere. Stucco axial stacks are visible to the left of numbers 2 and 3, and an end stack to number 4. The houses follow a double-depth plan, and are arranged over three storeys, with an overall 8-window range. The ground floor features channelled rustication, with windows set within plain, segmental-arched recessed panels, and a sill string defines the first floor. Most windows are original sashes with horizontal glazing bars, although number 1 has later 4-pane horned sashes and 20th-century windows to the second floor. The doorcases are pilastered and have unusual elliptical arches, panelled reveals and doors; numbers 1 and 2 share a paired doorway, while numbers 3 and 4 have their doorways on the right-hand side. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest. A high rubble wall constructed of killas stone is located at the rear right of number 1, and has scantle slate coping with red clay ridge tiles.
