NORTH PETHERWIN SX 29 SE 4/66 Stables and pound house 20 metres - to north west of Bodgate Farmhouse

GV II

Stables and pound house. Circa C17 origins. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with hipped and half hipped ends, higher range on right. Plan: Overall rectangular plan with ground sloping down to left. Pound house on left and stable with hay-loft above on right. Thick cob cross wall between the two. Exterior: Long low 2-storey range with slightly lower roof to pound house on left. Circa C18 door into pound house to left and C19 plank door to shippon on right flanked by 2 window openings to left and to right a 1-light circa early C18 casement window with thick heavy glazing bars. Plank door to loft in right hand side wall. Interior: Pound house to left has heavy chamfered floor joists, some with roughly cut run-out stops. A-frame roof structure with principals and collars halved, lap- jointed and pegged. Complete apple press. The interior of the stables has heavy roughly chamfered main beams with roughly cut joists. Roof structure not inspected. Part of unaltered group (qv shippon and Bodgate Farmhouse).
