Description
The lychgate at the west entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St Paternus was built around 1878, likely at the same time as the church's restoration. It is constructed from local ashlar stone and features a slate roof with half hipped ends, scalloped slate verges, clay ridge tiles, and clay crosses at the ends of the ridge. The lychgate has a rectangular plan and includes stone side walls with a two-centred arch opening at each end. The inner arch, facing the churchyard, is flanked by buttresses with set-offs, while the outer end is fitted with timber gates. Inside, the roof consists of common rafters with arch braces supported by small corbels resting on a moulded wall-plate.
