Description
Big Cellars is a boatshed built in the mid-19th century, with a few later alterations. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and features a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. The building is two stories tall and faces the beach, with a slipway at the front and another on the right side. The ground floor serves as the boatshed, while the lofts above were likely used originally for net and sail storage. There is a rear wing on the left side for storage sheds, which is built into the bank at the back.
The exterior is nearly symmetrical with a five-window front. The ground floor has four two-light window openings with wooden lintels and 20th-century windows, along with plank double doors with a wooden lintel. On the first floor, there are five window openings, two of which have lower cill levels and are blocked. The front features a pitched slate slipway, with a similar slipway along the right side. The right side has two ground floor window openings, one small and one large, both with shutters and diagonal wooden stanchions, along with a central wooden mullion. The left side is rendered and has 20th-century double doors at ground floor and a 20th-century window at first floor. The rear of the building is also rendered and built into the bank, featuring three plank doors and one 20th-century window. There is a small single-storey range of sheds to the right with 19th-century double doors. The interior has not been inspected.
