Description
This is a town house, likely dating from the 17th or early 18th century, situated on Church Street in Helston. The exterior is constructed from granite and local rubble, with granite dressings and timber lintels. The steeply pitched roof is covered in asbestos slates, concealed behind a parapet constructed of rubble and granite. There are two rubble stacks on the left and a rendered stack on the right. The building follows a double-depth plan.
The symmetrical front facade has three windows per floor. A late 18th or early 19th century bowed oriel features above a pilastered doorway, both with moulded elements. The doorway contains an original six-panel door, with the two upper panels later glazed. The other windows are early 19th century and contain 16-pane hornless sashes, except for a 20th-century replacement on the ground floor to the right.
The rear elevation incorporates slatehanging on the first floor and features a substantial set of granite steps, complete with an original iron balustrade.
Inside, a granite-flagged cross-passage leads to an 18th-century dogleg staircase with a closed string and column-turned balusters. An original stair cupboard door with H hinges is present, alongside an adjoining 18th-century two-panel door that is planked on its rear face.
