Description

This is a late 18th-century town house on Church Street, Helston. It is constructed of granite ashlar with a plinth, a sill string on the first floor, and flat arches above the windows, except for the rusticated round-arched doorway. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and hidden behind a parapet with plain coping. The house follows a double-depth plan and has a symmetrical facade of three windows. The windows are 20th-century four-pane sash windows with horns. The central doorway features an original five-panel door and a spoked fanlight. The interior was only partially inspected, but original moulded and carved ceiling cornices were noted in a right-hand room, and panelled window shutters are present in the front rooms. This building has group value as an example of Helston’s elegant townscape.
