Description
The Drill Hall in Helston, likely built between 1838 and 1839, features painted rubble walls and an asbestos slate roof that follows the slope of the building. It has a granite ashlar pedimented gable at the front, which includes a Venetian window with glazing bars. The hall is a single-storey structure with a deep plan. On the right-hand (courtyard) side, there are five round-arched doorways with spoked concentric fanlights, alternating with four Venetian windows that are similar to those on the gable. The left-hand side has similar architectural features, while the rear includes a boarded Venetian window. Inside, the original King-post roof structure can be seen where inspected. The Drill Hall was originally part of the market complex and is part of a notable group of buildings that includes the guildhall and the market hall, which is now the Museum.
