Description

Higher Lodge at Trematon Castle is a Grade II* listed building, constructed between 1807 and 1808, and attributed to D A Alexander. This two-storey structure features pointed stucco and a crenellated design. It has seven bays with a slight break in the centre five, and a band over the ground floor. The windows are fitted with glazing bar sashes, and the roof is hipped and covered with slate. A modern Doric porch, with glazed sides, is located at the centre of the building.

Inside, the lodge has a pleasantly proportioned interior. A lobby leads into a top-lit and galleried hall with stairs off to the side. The drawing room boasts a good marble fireplace, along with several original fixtures and fittings, including woodwork. The lodge is part of a significant group of buildings and is situated within the bailey of Trematon Castle, where part of the curtain wall was breached to provide a view.
