Description
Marden Ash House is a Grade II* listed house, likely built by Nicholas Alexander in the late 17th century. It was altered in the mid-18th century when it was cased in red brick and a new front was added. The house features a grey slate roof with three flat-headed dormers and has two storeys, attics, and a basement. The front has a stone-capped parapet with a dentilled and moulded cornice, and a central band. The façade has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows on each side, with small-paned vertical sliding sashes from the 19th century. The front projects slightly to the right and left. There is a central six-panel door with reveal panels, flanked by Ionic columns, and a moulded frieze with a dentilled soffit beneath the pediment. Two red brick chimney stacks with white, square chimney pots are present. The south front consists of six bays. Inside, there is a fine late 17th-century staircase and mid-18th-century detailing, along with a late 18th-century plaster ceiling decorated in the Adam style.
