Description
Dyers is a house with origins in the 16th or 17th century, altered in the 18th century. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, with an 18th-century plastered brick front. The building has two storeys and attics, with a double range and a plain red tiled roof that includes two pedimented dormers with small paned windows. The façade consists of five bays, two of which are recessed to the right. A parapet with a fluted and moulded cornice and a band underneath adds detail, while rusticated quoins enhance the corners. The window arrangement includes five small paned vertical sliding sashes. The central entrance has a three-panel door with an attractive fanlight and reveal panels, flanked by fluted Ionic pilasters, topped with a modillion cornice and a flat canopy. There are external, part plastered, red brick chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. Inside, the house retains much mid-18th-century detail, including decorative doorheads, an overmantle, and a fine staircase with an enriched string.
