Description

No. 40 High Street is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame with plaster and has attractive 20th-century decorative pargetting. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and has an outshot at the rear. The right side of the house is clad in weatherboard.

On the first floor, there is a range of four 17th-century square leaded casement windows, while the ground floor has early 19th-century small paned vertical sliding sash windows. The entrance is off-centre and consists of a four-panelled door set in a moulded surround, topped with a flat canopy supported by brackets. A plaque on the house reads "AD.1666." There are two red brick chimney stacks, and at the rear of the house, there is a working push-pull pump.
