Description

No. 85, also known as A.V. Surridge, is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and has undergone later alterations, including a shop front built in the 19th century. The building has two storeys and is timber framed with plastered walls. It features a red plain tile roof that is hipped to the left and has an outshot with a wing at the rear.

The front has a two-window range of 18th-century small paned double hung sliding sashes. The shop front is characterized by four pilasters and a five-light window with two transoms, flanked by round-headed windows on either side of the central doorway. The entrance has double doors with matching round-headed windows and a linking light above. There are plinths below the windows and the door bases are panelled. A matching two-light window is located on the left return. The shop front has a 20th-century fascia above, and the left return wall features rough render and weatherboarding.
