Description
The Lodge is a Grade II* listed building located on Holmes Chapel Road, serving as the lodge to Astle Hall. It was built in the late 18th century or early 19th century and features whitewashed brick in an English garden wall bond style, topped with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a three-bay front facing the drive. The central bay projects and includes a four-light ground floor window with an iron frame, interlacing tracery, and decorated leaded panes. There are two-light Y-tracery windows on either side of this central bay. A distinctive verandah is supported by tree trunks, with one pillar at each corner and two pairs in front of the central bay. Above the central bay, there is a gabled dormer window featuring a two-light Y-tracery and decorated leaded panes. The roof is covered with graduated roof tiles and there is a central 19th-century chimney stack. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. The Lodge is a well-preserved example of a Picturesque lodge.
