Description
The windmill located 350 metres to the northeast of Carlyon is a 17th-century stone rubble tower, which was likely originally plastered. The roof has been replaced with a flat top. The tower has a circular plan and features opposing doorways, one of which is partly blocked. It stands about 10 metres tall and has dressed granite lintels that are probably reused, along with a small window above each entrance. The machinery has been removed from the interior. This windmill tower is situated on Carlyon Hill, giving it a prominent position. It is depicted in a painted panel from around 1690 at Trevelver, as well as in Martyn's map of 1748, the 1813 Ordnance Survey map, and Greenwood's map of 1827.
