Description

SW 97 NE ST MINVER HIGHLANDS 4/255 Windmill 350m to NE of Carlyon (previously 6.6.69 listed as Cant Windmill II Windmill tower. Circa C17. Stone rubble tower, probably originally plastered. Roof replaced with flat top. Circular plan with opposing doorways. The tower, about 10 metres in height, has opposing doorways with one entrance partly blocked. Dressed granite lintels which are probably reused. Small window above each entrance. Machinery removed from interior. The windmill tower stands on Carlyon hill and commands a prominent position. It is illustrated in the painted panel of circa 1690 at Trevelver (qv), in Martyn's map of 1748, the 1813 O.S. map and Greenwood's map of 1827. Douch, H.L. Cornish Windmills p 54-55
