Description
Clouds Hill Cottage is a pair of attached houses, originally built for mine workers in the late 19th century, and later combined into a single dwelling. The building is constructed of painted stone rubble, with a slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends. Brick gable stacks have shaped tops. The original plan consisted of two one-room houses, each with a direct entrance into the living space, heated by a gable end stack. Later additions include an unheated outshut behind both houses, intended for service use, and a single-storey lean-to on the left side.
The front elevation has two storeys and two windows. The windows are 4-pane sashes with external shutters at the first floor level. A central 20th-century porch provides access through two plain inner doors. The right side of the building features a curved oven at the base of the stack, along with a 20th-century window at both ground and first floor levels. The outshut has a 20th-century window. The left side incorporates the lean-to with a front-facing door, with slate cladding above the door. Further windows are located to the left of the lean-to, also 4-pane sashes. The rear elevation shows the outshut creating a catslide roof, with a 20th-century window at ground floor level on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
