Description
Windlass is a pair of houses that have been combined into one, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The building features painted and rendered stone rubble with slate hanging on the rear elevation. It has a rag slate roof with gable ends and brick chimney stacks at both gable ends, as well as an axial stack located to the left of center.
Originally, the house on the right was designed with a two-room and cross passage plan, possibly including two smaller service rooms at the rear. The adjoining house on the left follows a two-room double depth plan, with the principal room at the front and an entrance to the right, along with a smaller service room at the rear.
The structure is two storeys high and has a regular four-window front, with brick segmental arches above the openings. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash window to the left, accompanied by a partly glazed 20th-century door. To the right, there are two 19th-century 16-pane hornless sashes flanking a 20th-century partly glazed door, which is sheltered by a gabled open porch. The first floor features a 19th-century 16-pane sash and a 19th-century casement window on the left, along with two 19th-century hornless 16-pane sashes on the right, positioned above the ground floor sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
