Description

The cottage located 40 metres north of Weston Farmhouse dates back to around the 1840s, when it transitioned from a farmhouse to a farmworkers' cottage. The original structure is believed to be from the late 17th century and is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. It features a slate roof with gable ends and a brick chimney stack at the right end.

The layout of the house is not entirely clear, but it has a two-room plan with a cross passage. The larger room on the left is heated by a rear lateral stack, while the right-hand room is heated by an end stack. There is a small dairy located directly behind the right-hand room. A bathroom extension was added to the rear in the late 19th or 20th century. Although the house once included an additional room to the right, it is uncertain whether this was part of the original structure or a later addition. The roof was originally thatched but was altered in the mid-20th century when the eaves were raised and the roof was covered with slate.

The exterior of the cottage is two storeys high and features a regular three-window front with 20th-century PVC windows set in earlier openings. A plank door is located in a 19th-century porch slightly to the right of centre, flanked by two 2-light casements with three above. The interior is not fully accessible, but the right-hand room contains heavy floor joists that appear to be roughly chamfered. The cottage is part of a group of buildings in an unaltered farmyard setting.
