Description
The Baptist church with an attached Sunday school, located in Metherell, was built in 1818. The Sunday school was likely added around the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of painted slatestone rubble, with a hipped slate roof.
The church has a single auditorium plan, with the main entrance on the front and the ritual east side towards the rear. The Sunday school is attached to the rear of the church.
On the front elevation, there are double doors with Gothic panels beneath a cambered arch on the right side. Above these doors is a central, round-arched sash window with 15 panes, featuring splayed glazing bars. The left side of the church has two large 12-pane sashes with segmental heads on the upper level, dating to the late 19th century. The right side has one similar sash, and a small 20th-century porch to the rear with double doors.
The attached Sunday school is lower, two-storey, and rendered. On its left side are three round-arched windows of the early 20th century.
The interior is not accessible, but features a gallery around the front and sides of the auditorium.
