GV II

Town house, now office. c1803. By Richard Arthur, builder and lessee. Granite ashlar basement, local freestone ashlar above and asbestos slate roof with 2 hipped roof dormers behind parapet and brick end stacks. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys plus later attic over basement; 2-window-range front. Round-headed doorcase with fluted pilasters and open pediment, on the left; panelled reveals, 6-panel door and spoked fanlight; mid-floor string course, moulded parapet cornice and early C19 hornless sashes with glazing bars under flat arches with projecting key blocks. Straight joints flanking wider ground-floor window and to left of window above and surviving voussoirs show that both openings have been reduced in size. INTERIOR not inspected but likely to be of interest. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: original latticed wrought-iron railings flank entrance bridge and stand over forecourt wall which adjoins granite steps down to the basement.
