Description

The Manse is a manse built around 1793, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is rendered and lined out, featuring a slate-hung front, sandstone rubble, and an asbestos slate roof with brick stacks on either side of the front gable end. It has a gable end facing Garrett Street and a front orientation to the north. The central entrance leads into a double depth plan, which includes a passage running from the front to the rear and laterally between the front and rear rooms. This layout creates one room in each corner of the house, with a staircase along the side of the front left room. This is the only known example of this plan type in Cawsand and Kingsand.

The house has two storeys and three windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes. The central entrance features a plain door flanked by fluted pilasters and topped with a cornice. The left wall is rounded, with a single light and a half-glazed door leading to the cellar, and there is a paired 12-pane sash window in the attic. The right side also has a paired 12-pane sash in the attic. The rear of the building includes a 6-pane sash window on the right and left of a 20th-century door with fluted pilasters, along with two 4-pane sashes and a central blind window on the first floor. Inside, there are panelled doors and vertical panelling in the ground floor passage.
