Description

Polcreek Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed with slatestone rubble walls and topped with an asbestos slate roof. It features brick chimneys on the gable ends and a truncated external stone lateral stack at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan consisting of three rooms and a parlour wing at the front, and it stands two storeys tall. The south front has three windows, including a 20th-century transomed three-light wide hall window that is slightly right of centre. There is a doorway with a 20th-century glazed door to the left and another door to the right, both situated within a lean-to stone porch at the angle. The first-floor windows are irregularly spaced and consist of six-pane sashes. A 20th-century window on the ground floor of the west wall of the wing is set in a narrowed opening, with a six-pane sash above it also in a narrowed opening. The original windows likely featured wooden mullions. The rear and east wall of the wing have irregularly spaced openings, including two with 12-pane, two-light casements and others with sashes. The interior has not been inspected, but it is likely that the beams date from the 17th century and feature complex moulding in the west room.
