Description

No. 27, Higher Lux Street is an early 19th-century town house, representing a remodelling of an earlier building. The front is of painted rubble, topped by an asbestos slate roof, with a shared stack on the left and a wider rubble stack on the right. The building has a single-depth plan range at the front, with two wings projecting at right angles to the rear; the right-hand wing is deeper and projects slightly. The symmetrical 3-window front is arranged over two storeys. The windows are largely 20th-century replacements within wide openings, with the exception of a narrow light above the doorway. The doorway has a 20th-century door, and the ground floor windows are bowed, reflecting the design of earlier bowed windows from the early 19th century. The interior remains uninspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
