Description

The garden wall and porches attached to the front of Colan Barton Farmhouse were built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is made of slatestone rubble and cob. It features a porch with a slate roof that has ridge tiles and gable ends. The walls enclose a garden area measuring approximately 18 metres by 20 metres, with a porch on each side.

On the right side of the house, the wall is about 3 metres high and constructed of cob with rubble coping. In the middle of this section is a Gothic style porch that has a two-centred arched opening on both the garden side and the outer side, along with a two-centred arched wooden door and a similar internal arch. The wall decreases in height towards the front, reaching about 1.5 metres high, topped with granite coping and featuring a 20th-century wooden gate in the center. The wall extends along the left side of the garden, where there is a 20th-century open-fronted porch with a gabled slate roof supported by wooden posts. Adjacent to the left side of the house is a two-centred arched doorway.
