Description
Albert Cottages is a terrace of ten small houses built in the late 19th century. They are constructed with stucco over brickwork and have roofs of scantle slate to part of number one, with asbestos slate roofs elsewhere. Each pair of houses has a small gable in the centre, and the end houses have a larger gable facing the front. There are brick stacks positioned forward of the ridge.
Each house has a double-depth plan with a single room at the front. The houses are two storeys high, featuring paired pointed-arched windows on the first floor above tripartite sash windows or pairs of pointed-arched doorways. Most houses have original two-pane horned sashes and original V-jointed doors, most with overlights, although number four has a 20th-century door. Number ten has a right-hand return with a two-window range, exhibiting moulded single lights over two-light, moulded mullioned windows. The interiors have not been inspected.
Albert Cottages represents an unusual and complete example of late 19th-century artisan cottages, notable for its Gothic architectural details.
