Description
Lellissick Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid 17th century, with interior remodeling occurring in the mid 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with the front elevation clad in asbestos sheets and the sides hung with rag slates. It has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends and gable ends on the two rear wings, along with brick end stacks. The original layout is probably an overall 'U' shape, featuring a front range with a central passage and a two-room plan heated by end stacks. A staircase projects slightly to the rear of the passage, with two one-room wings on the left and right at the back; the kitchen is located to the rear left, while the dairy and brewhouse are to the rear right.
The exterior is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window front that was altered in the mid 20th century when asbestos sheets were added, and two-light casements were inserted. There are two casements on either side of the stone rubble 19th-century porch, which has a hipped scantle slate roof. Above the porch, there are three two-light casements. The side and rear elevations are less altered and still feature their 19th-century casements and horizontally sliding sashes.
Inside, the internal partitions remain intact. The kitchen at the rear left has 18th-century bowtell moulded ceiling beams, a 19th-century gun rack, and joinery details from both the 18th and 19th centuries. The roof structure is mainly from the later 17th century, with principals that are halved, lap-jointed, and pegged at the apices, and it shows some carpenter's marks.
