Description

Clare House is a town house, likely dating from the 18th century, although it was significantly altered and refronted in the mid to late 19th century. The exterior is stuccoed over a rubble core, with a plinth and fluted pilasters at each end. It has a steep slate roof with rendered end stacks, one with a moulded cornice. An eaves cornice and cast-iron ogee gutter are also present. The building is arranged on a double-depth plan with extensions to the rear. The front façade is three bays wide, with three windows on each floor. Late 19th-century two-pane sash windows are set within two-story canted bays, featuring pilasters and moulded cornices. A flat-fronted entrance bay is flanked by these canted bays and contains a sash window above a pilastered doorway with consoles and a moulded cornice. The door itself is a six-panel design with arched top panels and a leaded overlight containing coloured glass. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest.
